Your training program starts with a motivated, knowledgeable fitness professional.

We are committed to the highest standards of excellence. You should expect nothing less. Every time you train our goal is to motivate, challenge, and educate you to be your best while you have fun along the way.

We go beyond a standard personal training certification. In addition to our university exercise science education, we better ourselves professionally through yearly continuing education (CECs) seminars and workshops. These CECs maintain our degrees and certifications, but more importantly allow us to apply the most current and effective information to all our 8 Week Edge™ programs.

Along with our desire to commit to this excellence we have an advisory board that we consult with and refer to whenever necessary.

Derek Heintz, Owner/Fitness Director

Derek is one of the leading fitness experts in San Diego. With his strong background in nutrition and fitness education and 15 years of personal training experience, Derek created the 8 Week Edge™ program: a customized fitness system designed to help you take your fitness to the next level.

Derek has a B.S. in Exercise Science from the University of California, Davis as well as Personal Trainer and Integrated Flexibility Specialist certifications through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). He is Resistance Training Specialist Certified, a Certified Sports Nutritionist, and a member and article contributor for the IDEA Health & Fitness International Association. 

Not only does Derek motivate you with his approachable, 'can do' attitude, but his commitment to fitness education will empower you with the knowledge and skills you need to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Rory Sutherland, BS, CSCS, Advanced Fitness Trainer

Rory is a native San Diegan and a multi-sport athlete that formerly played soccer in the 4th-tier of the American professional leagues.

Prior to this venture, he received a BS in Kinesiology from San Diego State University and is now a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) by the NSCA as well as a Functional Range Conditioning Mobility Specialist (FRCms).

The culmination of education and athletic experience have led Rory to better understand what the body necessitates to achieve optimal physical performance, function, and wellness.

He believes the highest echelon of fitness is rooted in science and thus strives to approach all fitness endeavors from that mindset.
